Changelog

Download the county food-access extract cited on this page: plainfoodaccess-food-access.csv (USDA ERS Food Access Research Atlas + Census ACS · public domain sources).

A dated record of real changes to PlainFoodAccess: corrections, data refreshes, and features. See the editorial & corrections policy for how reports are verified. We never backfill or invent an entry; a gap between dates means nothing changed on our side.

  1. Feature

Added USDA ERS According-to ledes on all six guides, a personal county watchlist RSS feed at /tools/county-watchlist-feed.xml, and a Subscribe button on /saved for return visits.

  2. Feature

Wired Statistics and Research into primary navigation and county “Read with this county” discovery grids; surfaced the device-local saved-county list from the homepage.

  3. Correction

Bound national summary totals and SNAP retailer counts to a single database query so homepage and statistics figures cannot drift from the county corpus.

  4. Correction

Counties with ACS data but no 2019 Food Access Research Atlas row (chiefly Connecticut planning regions and two Alaska redraws) now show “not available” instead of false zero low-access percentages.

  5. Feature

Every data page now shows the dataset vintage (“reviewed” date) from the live ETL metadata instead of the page render time.

  6. Feature

Published a downloadable open CSV covering all counties and wired Dataset schema on methodology and trust pages.

  7. Data refresh

Rebuilt the county database from the USDA Food Access Research Atlas (2019) and Census ACS 2024 5-year extracts.

  8. Launch

PlainFoodAccess launched with county-level food access profiles from USDA and Census public data.
