Information We Collect

PlainFoodAccess was designed with data minimalism as a core principle. Our analytics rely on Umami, which never places cookies on your device and never gathers personally identifiable details. We measure only aggregate site traffic, nothing that could identify an individual visitor.

Cookies & Tracking Technologies

PlainFoodAccess does not set first-party cookies. However, third-party services used on this site may set cookies:

  • Google AdSense uses cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites. Google's DoubleClick cookie enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your browsing patterns.
  • Cloudflare may set security cookies (e.g., __cf_bm) to distinguish humans from bots.

Data Sources

All data displayed on this site comes from publicly available food access data from the U.S. Census American Community Survey (ACS). No private or proprietary data is used. No personally identifiable information from these datasets is stored or displayed.

Editorial Independence

Content on PlainFoodAccess is compiled by our editorial process: raw data from the USDA Economic Research Service (Food Access Research Atlas), the U.S. Census Bureau (American Community Survey), and the USDA Food and Nutrition Service (SNAP participation) is transformed into readable county and state profiles by our continuous editorial pipeline, validated against the source datasets before publication. The PlainFoodAccess editorial process is responsible for editorial standards, methodology, and corrections.

We do not accept payment, sponsorship, or promoted placement from grocery chains, retailers, food manufacturers, state agencies, or advocacy organizations. Our only revenue source is contextual display advertising served by Google AdSense, advertisers do not influence which counties, states, or indicators we cover, and they do not receive preferential placement in rankings or profiles.

Under GDPR, CCPA, and similar privacy regulations, you have the right to:
